Description

In Serenity, blue and violet forms appear to float across an open white field.

The shapes are dimensional but nearly weightless, drifting diagonally through the composition with ample space between them. Color moves from cool blue into lavender and purple, while delicate outlines of 24-karat gold give each form a soft glow.

Every shape was cut from invasive lionfish leather, painted by hand, and wet-molded into a shallow curve. The leather’s scale texture remains visible beneath the color, interrupting the softness with a subtle natural pattern. As light passes across the raised surface, the forms cast delicate shadows and seem to hover above the canvas.

Serenity is an exploration of spaciousness. Nothing crowds or competes. Each element has room to exist on its own while remaining connected to the whole.

This work is part of Radiant Bliss, a series exploring joy through color, texture, movement, and light.

The leather comes from invasive lionfish removed from Caribbean reefs. Creating lasting value from this material helps encourage continued removal while transforming a source of ecological pressure into something peaceful and enduring.
