The Work

My work often sits somewhere between landscape, abstraction, and fields of color. My goal isn't to describe a place exactly, but to convey the sense of calm, expansiveness, and wonder I feel around these elements.

Each painting is made on leather from invasive species. I work with the natural texture of the material, allowing scales, seams, patterns, and irregular surfaces to become part of the image. The irregular surfaces of these materials introduce textures and visual effects that couldn’t exist on conventional canvas, transforming invasive-species leather into a distinctly new surface for contemporary painting.
